The 2nd Excellence Award Ceremony was organised by 21st Century Business and Economic Club at a local hotel on Friday.
Arif Habib, Chairman Arif Habib Financial Services Group, was awarded "Man of the Year" (Private Sector), while Munawar Baseer Ahmed, CEO & MD of Sui Southern Gas Company, got the award for management; Shaukat Tareen, President and Group CEO of Union Bank Limited, for finance; Mian Muhammad Latif, Chairman and Chief Executive of Chenab Group for marketing and Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director of Oxford University Press, for woman entrepreneur.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Award Committee, Syed Farrukh Mazhar said that Hafeez Shaikh's two years as the minister for privatisation and investment has been the most successful in the country's history.
18 transactions worth Rs 50 billion have been completed in a transparent fashion in banking, energy and manufacturing sectors. Using the slogan of 'Privatisation for the People' and shares in several companies have been given to 0.4 million people, creating broad ownership for the privatisation programme, he added.
Farrukh Mazhar said that the period has also seen doubling of foreign direct investment (FDI) and an unprecedented increase in domestic investment.
